Frequently Asked Questions
What is asbestos?
Asbestos is a collective name for a number of minerals found in nature. The word has Greek origins and means “indestructible”. Asbestos is a strong, hard-wearing, insulating, fireproof and cheap material, which is why it was widely used in buildings. Specifically, white asbestos (chrysotile), blue asbestos (crocidolite) and brown asbestos (amosite) have been used. In the 1970s, it was discovered that inhalation of asbestos fibres could be harmful to health. As a result, the sale and use of asbestos in buildings have been prohibited since 1993.
Where is asbestos found?
There is still a relatively high number of roofs containing asbestos today, especially in the agricultural sector. Asbestos can be found in three types of roofing materials: corrugated sheets, roof tiles and bitumen. Corrugated sheets are the most common application.
Do I have asbestos on my roof?
It is impossible to tell for sure whether you have asbestos on your roof just by looking. An asbestos survey is needed to be sure. We can take care of this for you. We work with an established partner specialising in asbestos surveying. An asbestos survey will reveal whether asbestos is present and whether it needs to be removed.
What is asbestos removal?
Asbestos removal refers to the removal and disposal of asbestos. In many cases, this must be performed by a certified company such as Bunt Asbestos Removal.
What does asbestos removal cost?
We understand that you would like to know about the costs of asbestos removal in your case. To provide an accurate estimate of the costs, we need information about your situation. You can use the contact form to request a free, no-obligation quote. Please include pictures of the current situation to enable us to make a good estimate.
How long does asbestos removal take?
The time needed to remove all the asbestos depends on the type of asbestos and the size of the roof. We can remove an average of 1000 m2 of asbestos roofing per day. However, it is difficult to estimate the duration of asbestos removal without an asbestos survey. Once the asbestos survey is complete, we can provide a more accurate estimate of the time needed for asbestos removal.
What options do I have for the new roof?
We work together with our sister company, Bunt Montage, for new roof installations. They specialise in pitched roofs, sandwich panels, and corrugated sheets. If you want your barn to retain its original appearance, we can install roofing that looks similar to what you had before.
Do you also work for private individuals?
Yes, we remove asbestos roofs for private individuals. In some cases, private individuals are allowed to remove small amounts of asbestos themselves.
How should I prepare for asbestos removal?
On the day of removal, we must have easy access to the asbestos roof. There must be enough space for our equipment. It is also important that the rooms are empty and broom clean.
